About Borrowing

Who may borrow?

If you live within the boundaries of Central Citizens’ Library District, you, upon proper identification and proof of present address, can get a library card. Anyone with a valid library card from any library may borrow in-house items available for loan.

How long may items be kept?

Most materials may be kept for two weeks and renewed for an additional two weeks unless a request for a specific item has been filed by another patron. Special vacation loans may be made on request.

What about late returns?

For the best service to the school and the public, materials cannot be unduly retained by one user. A charge of $.10 per calendar day is made for each item kept beyond the due date (for certain audio-visual materials, the fine is higher).

Get a Card

The library is supported by property tax money. You may have a free card if you live in our library district. If you are unsure where you should apply for your free library card, call and ask us. If you live outside of our boundary lines and would like to purchase a library card from us, you may. We honor all public library cards from any public library in Illinois. With our library card, you will have access to not only the items in our library, but books and materials from the over 100 other libraries in Illinois Heartland Libraries System.

Lost or Damaged Materials/Fines

We hope you take great care of the materials we lend. However, in the event that an item is lost or damaged, please let us know immediately. We can repair many items. If you have lost a book or other material, let us know and we will tell you the amount that is owed.Thank you!

If the materials you borrowed are overdue, we charge a fee of $.10 a day. Our red cased videos and DVD’s are $1.00 for every day they are overdue. Pay your fines and fees online using E-Pay.
